[attr="class","monty"]The name foothill town didn't strike a chord with Montgomery. In fact, prior to that day, the deputy had never heard the name spoken before. When he mentioned it to another officer in the dewford police department, the man seemed to freeze.

"Don't talk about that place. You'd be better off ignoring whatever you heard."

Since his interaction with that officer, the town along route 117 became all too interesting. From the newspaper clippings he could find, it seemed the town was abandoned. The title of "haunted" was synonymous with the village.

What caught his eye were the barricaded doors, the signs of struggle and violence, and no one around.

Montgomery decided to investigate after he got off work. It was a Friday, and it was quiet as the sun began to set and cast its orange color across the land. The town sign stood, rusty and clawed.

For once, Vespa is setting out with both her trusted partner-in-fluff, Sun the Grookey, and her trusted-with-an-asterisk partner-in-crime, Quinn Crisp the Misdreavus, to investigate a strange occurrence that has making its round on social media. And although she does not fully indulge in such things like some of her peers do, she does visit a couple accounts and pages that talk specifically about the paranormal, for very normal interests. Such as, filling a Friday afternoon with something else to do than homework or whatever it is that people her age are doing. Maybe she could make a powerpoint presentation about it? For which subject, she'd have to see later.[break]

Now, it's - ghost time! Something like this.[break]

Armed with a backpack that sports various Ghost-themed button badges and a Misdreavus plushie as keychain, she passes the crossed-out sign - soaking in the atmosphere, her eyes soon spot a stranger however, commenting on the scenery. With one monkey on one shoulder, and one ghost following her, Vespa decides she might as well join the stranger in his assessment, nodding, "yea - well, more like abandoned, I'd say. But then again, Ghosts tend to haunt houses over barren landscapes, I think?"

[attr="class","monty"]Montgomery tilted his head, glancing over as Vespa Baskerville appeared seemingly out of nowhere. He had to wonder...

Why was a girl as young as her here? Did teenagers get a thrill out of the unknown and hauntings? Though, to be fair, his teenage years were spent committing crime and murder.

He'd say he wasn't the best judge of character.

"It's not that. I don't believe there's a single ghost here."

He didn't hesitate to confess his beliefs. "Ghosts are justa figment of imagination. People wanna explain things usin' stories instead of reality."

Montgomery took several steps forward, beginning his trek to a real investigation.

The stranger is met with two pairs of a more deadpan expression, while the Grookey is looking as happy as ever, shaking his wooden stick out in a sort of greeting, just as Vespa contemplates what to say in turn. Well ... one could probably argue that Ghost types are something other than the ghostly spirits left behind by humans - of course, if one were to subscribe to such an idea ... How interesting.[break]

"Hm ... I see," she remarks at last, gesturing for the Misdreavus to follow as she decides to follow the stranger, "I guess that is one way to see it. I'm Vespa, by the way. Can I tag along?" Though she wonders if she isn't just a nuisance, there is curiosity about the other and whether or not either of them would remain correct. "Personally, I think ghosts could be very real, or at least ... y'know, to a degree. Unless the soul is attached to the body and dies with the same, there should be something immaterial left. Maybe? I think. I read it in a book," she chitchats freely, perhaps to sully out the oppressive silence of this place where each footstep echoes louder than ever.

"Sure. Keep pace, though."

He was ever the worker. He stepped forward, speaking over his shoulder as he led the way further into foothill town.

"Montgomery. Nice to meet ya."

He approached one of the barren homes first, looking around the opening. There was no one inside, and there was hardly any proof of anyone having lived there. The building itself was old and decrepit.

Attempting to do somewhat of a salute, her steps are quick to pick up as the other only demands her to keep pace, and that is something she can (probably) do, boosting her confidence and own enthusiasm about this place quite a bit. "Aye! Don't worry, I'm quick on my feet," she hums in turn, eyes yet wandering over the desolate place, their voices yet echoing far an further in this place. "Oh, and I'm Vespa! Likewise," she remarks, looking over to her ghostly companion, "and that's Quinn - Quinn Crisp, in fact." In greeting herself, the Misdreavus floats into the field of view of the other, hanging upside down into the air with a mischievous smile before returning back to the young student's side.[break]

It seems as if their first stop is a barren home, void of much any sign of life. The floor creaks under their weigh, dust weighing heavily in. "Wonder what happened here ... Did people just move away?" she wonders out loud. At first glance, Vespa can't seem to find much, but she cannot shake an uncertain, unsettling feeling ...
